「私」と「僕」と「俺」の違い / the difference "watashi" and "boku" and "ore"

 

英語の一人称は一種類だけですが、日本語には色々な一人称があります。

While there is only one type of first person in English, there are many different types of first person in Japanese.

中でもよく使われる一人称「私」「僕」「俺」について、簡単にそれぞれの特徴をまとめてみました。

Here is a brief summary of the most commonly used first person expressions "watashi", "boku" and "ore".

「私 (watashi)」

丁寧な印象があります。

It is very polite.

男性はフォーマルな場で使いますが、女性はいつでも使うことが多いです。

Men use it for formal occasions, but women often use it at any time of the day.

「私」のカジュアルな形は「あたし」で、女性がよく使います。

The casual form of "watashi" is "atashi" and is often used by women.

「僕 (boku)」

普通、男性のみが使います。

It is usually only used by men.

「私」よりもややカジュアルですが、フォーマルな会話で使っても失礼ではありません。

It's a little more casual than "watashi", but it's not impolite to use it in formal conversation.

ちなみに、村上春樹の小説に登場する男性の一人称は「僕」が多いです。

Incidentally, many of the men in Haruki Murakami's novels use "boku" as their first person.

「俺 (ore)」

普通、男性のみが使います。

It is usually only used by men.

かなりカジュアルで男性的な表現です。

It is a fairly casual and masculine expression.

フォーマルな場で使うのはNGです。

It is not to be used in a formal setting.

女性でも「僕」や「俺」を使う？ / Do women also use "boku" or "ore"?

普通、「僕」や「俺」は男性のみが使う一人称です。

Normally, "boku" and "ore" are first person terms used only by men.

でも、アニメやマンガでは「僕」や「俺」を使う女性キャラクターが登場することもあります。

However, in anime and manga, there are some female characters who use "Boku" and "Ore".

あくまで私の個人的な印象ですが、「僕」を使う女性はアニメ・マンガ好き、「俺」を使う女性は男性っぽい感じを受けます。

It's just my personal impression, but I feel that women who use "boku" are more like anime/manga lovers and women who use "ore" are more like men.

これらの一人称は、友達同士で楽しんで使う分には構わないと思います。

I think it's okay to use these first personers as long as you enjoy using them with your friends.
