「助ける」と「手伝う」の違い / the difference between "tasukeru" and "tetsudau"



英語ではどちらも「help」と訳されますが、それぞれ違いがあります。

In English, they are both translated as "help", but there are differences between them.

以下、それぞれの違いをまとめてみました。

「助ける」"tasukeru"

  • 相手が困っている状況、絶体絶命のピンチを救う Save a situation where the other person is in trouble or in a desperate pinch.

  • 「助ける人」と「助けられる人」は違う行動をとる Those who help and those who are being helped act differently.

「助ける」の例文 examples of "tasukeru"

泥棒だー！助けてー！　There's a thief! Help me!

彼は川で溺れている子どもを助けた。　He saved a child from drowning in the river.

山田さんはいつも困っている人を助けている。　Mr. Yamada is always helping people in need.

「助かる」は「be helpful, be saved, survive」の意味がある The word "save" means "be helpful, be saved, survive.

「助ける」は他動詞ですが、「助かる」は自動詞です。

"tasukeru" is a transitive verb, but "tasukaru" is an intransitive verb.

例 examples）

おかげで助かったよ。

鈴木さんは自動車事故にあったが、助かった。 Mr. Suzuki was in a car accident and he survived.


「手伝う」"tetsudau"

相手が困っていてもいなくても行動する act whether they are in trouble or not.

「手伝う人」と「手伝ってもらう人」は同じことをする Those who help and those who are being helped do the same thing.

「手伝う」の例文 examples of "tetsudau"

（母親が子どもに）ねえ、野菜の皮をむくの、手伝ってくれる？ Hey, can you help me peel the vegetables?

（職場の人が忙しそうにしている）A：手伝いましょうか。(People at work seem to be busy) A: Can I help you?

B：ありがとうございます、助かります。B: Thank you, that would be very helpful.

「得意」と「上手」の違いは？/ the difference between "tokui" and "jouzu"

「得意」も「上手」も英語に訳すと"can do very well" "be good at..."ですが、両者には明確な違いがあります。 Both "得意（とくい / tokui）" and "上手（じょうず/jouzu）" can be translated into English as "can do very well" and "be good at..."
