「はじめまして」と「よろしく」の違い / the difference between "hajimemashite" and "yoroshiku"



 「はじめまして」も「よろしく」も、英語に訳すとどちらも「nice to meet you」ですが、二つの言葉には違いがあります。

Both "Hajimemashite" and "Yoroshiku" are "nice to meet you" when translated into English, but there is a difference between the two words.


「はじめまして」は初めて会う人にだけ言う！"hajimemashite" is only said to someone you've never met before!

「はじめまして」は自己紹介の時に使う表現で、「nice to meet you」と同じような意味です。

"hajimemashite" is an expression used to introduce yourself and has the same meaning as "nice to meet you".


ちなみに、漢字表記は「初めまして」または「始めまして」の二通りあります。

By the way, there are two ways to write "初めまして" or "始めまして" in kanji.


初めて会う人以外にも「よろしく」を使う Using "yoroshiku" even for people you've never met

「よろしく」の意味は、以下のように英語では色々な意味に訳せます。
The meaning of "yoroshiku" can be translated into various ways in English as follows:

  • Thank you in advance for your friendship
  • Thank you in advance for your kindness
  • Thank you in advance for your cooperation

初めて知り合った時だけでなく、一緒に働くことになった時、人に何かをお願いする時などにも「よろしく」を使います。

Not only when you meet someone for the first time, but also when you are going to work together and when you need a favor from someone.


ビジネスシーンなどでは、丁寧な「よろしくお願いします」や、さらに丁寧な「よろしくお願いいたします」を使います。

In business situations, you can use polite "yoroshiku onegai shimasu" or even more polite "yoroshiku onegai itashimasu".

仕事や用事を頼む時 When we ask someone to do a job or run an errand.

「得意」と「上手」の違いは？/ the difference between "tokui" and "jouzu"

「得意」も「上手」も英語に訳すと"can do very well" "be good at..."ですが、両者には明確な違いがあります。 Both "得意（とくい / tokui）" and "上手（じょうず/jouzu）" can be translated into English as "can do very well" and "be good at..."
