「月は綺麗です」と「月が綺麗です」の違い / the difference between "Tsuki wa kirei desu" and "Tsuki ga kirei desu"

英語に訳すとどちらも「The moon is beautiful」 ですが、この二つの文には違いがあります。

Both sentences translate into English as "The moon is beautiful", but there is a difference between the two.

助詞の「は」と「が」の違い / The difference between the particles "wa" and "ga".

助詞の「は」は文のテーマを表し、助詞の「が」は主語を表します。

The particle "wa" indicates the theme of the sentence and the particle "ga" indicates the subject.

このテーマは主語と一致することもありますが、一致しないこともあります。

This theme may or may not coincide with the subject.

「月は綺麗です」という文のテーマはもちろん「月」で、「一般的に、月というものは綺麗」という意味です。

The theme of the sentence "The moon is beautiful" is, of course, the moon, which means, "In general, the moon is beautiful.

一方、「月が綺麗です」は「話者が今見ている月が綺麗」という意味です。

On the other hand, "The moon is beautiful" means "The moon as the speaker sees it is beautiful.

視覚や聴覚などで今まさに感じていることを表現する場合、助詞の「が」を使って表現します。

When you want to express what you are feeling visually or audibly, you use the particle "ga" to express it.

例 Example)

蝉の鳴き声がうるさい。The sound of cicadas is noisy.

ここから海が見える。I can see the ocean from here.

「今、自分はそう思っているんだ！」ということを表現したい時には、助詞の「が」を使いましょう。

If you want to express that you feel that way now, use the particle "ga".

「I love you」の日本語訳は「月が綺麗ですね」？ The Japanese translation of "I love you" is "The moon is beautiful, isn't it?  

ちなみに、日本では夏目漱石という作家が「I love you」という英文を「月が綺麗ですね」と訳したという話が有名です。

By the way, it is a famous story that a Japanese writer named Soseki Natsume translated the English phrase "I love you" into "The moon is beautiful, isn't it?

夏目漱石が本当にそう訳したのかはわかっていませんが、月の綺麗な夜、思いを寄せる人に使ってみるのもいいかもしれませんね(^^)

It is not known how Natsume Soseki translated the phrase, but it might be a good idea to use it for someone you love on a beautiful moonlit night.)
